IF YOU DON’T KNOW about this already, get yourself (and your children) to the next performance of Sprout’s Children’s Theatre at Creative Spark in Mount Pleasant.

The Emperor’s New Clothes

This weekend (Fri-Sat-Sun), Sprouts will be staging The Emperor’s New Clothes, a delightful musical based on Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale. And in May they will perform Jack and the Beanstalk. Rest assured, adults will find these plays—especially the lyrics and staging—as enchanting and entertaining as children do.

SPROUTS originated in Boston in the 1980s and has grown into a library of more than two dozen original musicals designed for audiences ages 4 and up. The musicals were adapted from classic fairy tales or developed as original material by Artistic Director, Stan Gill, who is known for his acclaimed one-man show, “Mark Twain’s Final Tour.”

These engaging shows run between 45 and 60 minutes, and most shows contain five to nine musical numbers. They all have lively audience-participation sequences and high-energy chase scenes, both of which are SPROUTS hallmarks.

Winner of countless international awards, SPROUTS productions are performed throughout the world, and the shows have recently been translated into their fifth language.

Tickets are $10 per person

A Solution for This Country

“I want to see us begin again. Let’s get out of these wars and come on back here. Take all the money we are spending elsewhere, trying to control other places, and start to rebuild the structure. Put money and prestige back into the schools. Start teaching kids in day care. Scientists tell us the earlier kids start to learn, the more capable they are of learning, and we are not taking advantage of that. We start there and we put ourselves back in the running.”

~ actor Morgan Freeman in an interview with Garden&Gun
